Seed Cycling

Seed cycling can help balance your monthly hormonal flow of estrogen and progesterone. The balance of these hormones is needed for a healthy cycle (see the previous post for more healthy cycle details)

Seed cycling starts on day one of your menstrual cycle, which is the first day of your period. On this day and until ovulation (around day 14) you have a tablespoon of whole or ground pumpkin and flaxseeds. I use a coffee grinder to grind them. These seeds are full of phytoestrogens and omega-3’s so they help to boost estrogen which is important at this point in your cycle.

At ovulation, you then swap to ground sesame and sunflower seeds. They are rich in magnesium, zinc and vitamin E which helps to boost progesterone which is needed in this phase of the cycle.

If you don’t have periods anymore it can still be beneficial, as it can boost flagging hormone levels in menopause too. Just choose when you want to start, or work with the moon phases.

You can put the seeds into smoothies, on your cereal or in soups and salads. If I’m in a rush I just eat them from the spoon.

It’s such an easy way to help balance your hormones.
